  Mission & Service
OUR MISSION PROJECTS

Habitat for Humanity – now building the second home in our community with a small group of workers who offer everything from construction skills to cookies for the builders.

These homes touch the lives of not only the family who earns the home, but the lives of neighbors and future generations who live there.  Eblin Street in LaGrange has a new look because one Habitat house was built.  Your skills can make you a valued part of this community of faith.  To volunteer your time on any of the jobs please contact Jeaton Smith 979 218 9420

Quilters – Did you think this was a lost art? Not in LaGrange!  Women (and men) from all faiths and nearby communities made 100 quilts this year for the children in Mexico who live in deep poverty.  Want to be part of a community of faith that touches the WORLD?  Help make a quilt…if you can’t hold a needle, you can cut, press, serve lunch and become a part of this labor of love.

Second Chance Emporium – Ever long for a second chance? Here’s your opportunity to give yourself that gift by helping in this community of faithful workers. Can you fold, press, pack, tag and/or move boxes? Can you make change and visit with shoppers? Can you unload cars and sort varied items? If so, you are needed in a work that has fed the hungry thru donations to the food pantry, clothed the poor and improved our community. Your participation can touch lives in LaGrange and in the Texas-Mexico border area, which has the unfortunate record as the poorest area in the U.S.

International Missions – Do you long to spread the gospel to other countries? Do you feel that your blessings are God’s gift to be shared? Our financial support of Youth With A Mission in Hungary does just that as they offer good news to the youth of Hungary thru a coffeehouse ministry. The Bible is taught and lives are changed because many communities of faith make it possible.

What an opportunity to be a foreign missionary thru F.U.M.C.

Methodist Mission Home - Methodist Mission Home offers hope to individuals facing spiritually, emotionally and physically challenging circumstances, so they may lead enriched, rewarding and satisfying lives.  Through professional guidance and compassionate support, teens and young women facing unplanned pregnancy and families considering adoption make mutually beneficial decisions.  Through transitional education, including life skills and vocational training, young adults with disabilities and those who are deaf develop confidence and competence to reach their personal level of independent living.

Pharr Literacy Project - Did you know 60% of adults in Pharr do not have a High School Diploma or GED?  --Or that 97% of the population is Hispanic, many of whom speak Spanish as their only language?  --Did you know that Hidalgo County is the poorest county in the United States with the 2nd highest child poverty and unemployment rate?

C.U.P.S. - CUPS is an ecumenical ministry that assists NE Mexican communities to improve health and education and foster a sense of community, while providing volunteers an opportunity to serve and be served.

P.E.T -  The national program began in 1995 as a ministry for those in greatest need of mobility. The three-wheeled, hand-cranked wheelchairs are called a bike in some countries and a cart in others. They are built by P.E.T. locations and sent to third world countries at no charge to the recipients. Charitable contributions in the form of cash, materials and labor keep the 501 C 3 operations building and shipping these much needed transportation vehicles.  The Methodist Men of FUMC provide a work crew once monthly to assemble units in Luling.

Food Pantry (A.M.E.N.) – Being a part of this small but effective group of volunteers allows you to physically “feed the hungry” as Christ commanded – plus the blessings of being in a community of faith.  Faithful workers like this group form Christian friendships that last a lifetime.

Communities of faith exist within our church that our too numerous to describe. You can become a part of them! Call the church office for phone numbers or email addresses to participate.
